Stalin's Wager--Part One--Inside Straights--Now Available for Pre-order on Amazon

Stalin's Wager (Part One: Inside Straights) is now available for pre-order (released on February 2, 2018).

April 1945: The US Army beat the Russians to Berlin--how will Stalin react?

Tension flare in central Europe as Patton's tankers and Zhukov's red legions glare at each other across a narrow demilitarized zone.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific, casualties continue to mount by the thousands in Eisenhower's stalled Okinawa campaign as Konev's T-34s roll into Manchuria. Will the race for Berlin be followed by a race for Tokyo?

This is alternate history in the grand tradition at the global scale, as the story begun in MacArthur's Luck continues to unfold in a world that could have been.

Captain Jackie Robinson's reward for being first across the Rhine is hardly what he expected.

Commander Robert Heinlein's CL Rochester survived kamikaze attacks at Okinawa (barely!), but will the captain, ship, and crew survive an encounter with US Navy bureaucrats?

Why are other B-29 pilots demanding that Major Barry Goldwater spill "the real story" about his exploits on Tinian when he's not fire-bombing Japan?

More to the point, why is Major General Curtis "Iron Ass" LeMay calling on obscure female Navy Lieutenant Virginia "Ginny" Gerstenfeld?

Stalin's Wager (Part One) is the third installment in The Fortunes of War series, all of which are now available on Amazon (made necessary when MacMillan shut down Pronoun).  MacArthur's Luck (Part One) Laying the Bet has been entered into Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime for those of you who'd like to start the series for free. If you aren't into Kindle Unlimited it's only $0.99. MacArthur's Luck (Part Two) Running the Table is just $2.99 in the Kindle Store.

Don't let the "Part One" and "Part Two" stuff fool you. These are BIG books for the prices--Part One (for which there will be an audiobook companion in another monty) tallies 75,000 words, Part Two tallies 85,000, and Stalin's Wager (Part One) weighs in at 118,00 words.

At over 270,000 words so far this is a BIG story.

  1. Hmmm... Wargamer from way back, master Sgt, professor of history.. OK worth a punt.

    Oh.

He can write too. Write very, very well indeed.

Ok, I'm probably way to the left of him politically, but that just means we might be able to teach each other a thing or two. I can certainly learn from him, even if the reverse is questionable.

Any lurker seeing this comment - just go spend a few bucks on Amazon Kindle to read the first book in the series. If you're a military history maven, you'll be rapt. If not, it's still a thundering good read, and might inspire you to read up on this period of history. Churchill's History of the Second World War would be a good start.
